Additional recipe notes

Look for good quality fresh asparagus stalks that have a nice dark green color, look plump and not shriveled, and have clean, crisp (not soft or slimy) tips. Trim the tough ends off the bottom of the asparagus. I usually trim about 1 1/2 inches off the bottom of each stalk. Use freshly grated Parmesan Cheese for the best flavor. Other seasonings and fresh herbs to work with include red pepper flakes, basil, parsley, dill, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, and balsamic vinegar. For a change of pace, try pine nuts, chopped almonds, lemon zest, or feta cheese. Plan on serving this dish fairly promptly, as it is best served warm while it is just a teeny bit crisp. If desired, serve with a fresh lemon wedge for a spritz of fresh lemon juice. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave at reduced power.

Storage & reheating safety

For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.

These are general safety limits, not a tested storage or freezing recommendation for this particular dish. USDA leftovers guidance · Safe cooking temperatures
