Instant Pot Swedish Meatballs and Noodles

Tender meatballs and broad noodles in creamy gravy make a welcoming bowl for dinner. The noodles catch the savory sauce as it thickens around them. Stir everything together at the end, then serve it warm with a generous scoop of both meatballs and pasta.

A few quick notes

1. Season the broth first

Stir the meatballs, broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and seasonings together before adding the layer of noodles on top.

2. Press without stirring

Spread noodles evenly and press down gently without stirring them into the meatballs. Full submersion is not needed before pressure cooking.

3. Whisk cream and starch

Combine the cream and cornstarch separately before stirring them into the cooked meatballs and noodles for the sauté finish.

Get to know the ingredients

Prepared beef meatballs

The ingredient list allows meatballs frozen or thawed. They go into the pot with broth and seasonings before the noodles.

Extra-broad egg noodles

Use the listed extra-broad egg noodles, arranged over the meatballs. Stir them through after releasing pressure, even if their tops look dry.

Half-and-half or cream

Either is listed for the sauce. Whisk it with cornstarch after pressure cooking before adding it to thicken the gravy.

The last little job

Stir until thickened

Use sauté mode and stir just until the creamy sauce thickens, bringing the cooked noodles through the meatballs and gravy.

A little more help as you go

Allow time to pressurize

The three-minute cooking timer starts after the pot reaches pressure, which the directions estimate takes about ten minutes.

Dry-looking noodles are expected

Some noodle tops may look dry when the lid opens. Stir them into the meatballs before the cream sauce finishes cooking.

A few questions you might have

Can I make the noodles softer?

The directions allow five minutes of natural pressure release before venting when you prefer a softer noodle texture.

What valve position starts pressure cooking?

Set the valve to sealing after closing the lid, then select Manual or Pressure Cook for the three-minute cooking stage.

How long do leftovers keep?

Refrigerate leftovers for three to four days. The noodles continue absorbing sauce and become thicker overnight.

How should I reheat a portion?

Add a splash of beef broth or cream and warm gently on the stove or in the microwave to loosen the sauce.

Is freezing recommended?

Refrigerating leftovers is preferable, since the egg noodles can become quite soft after freezing and thawing in this creamy dish.

Any more cooking tips?

Storage: I usually keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. The egg noodles keep soaking up that creamy sauce as they sit, so everything will be a little thicker the next day (which is totally normal!). When I reheat it, I’ll add a splash of beef broth or cream first, then warm it gently on the stove or in the microwave to loosen it up. I don’t usually freeze this one because egg noodles can get pretty soft after thawing. If you know you’ll have leftovers, I’d much rather plan on eating them from the fridge over the next few days!

Storage & reheating safety

For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.

These are general safety limits, not a tested storage or freezing recommendation for this particular dish. USDA leftovers guidance · Safe cooking temperatures
