A little planning before the week begins

Set yourself up for the week

A little look ahead 1

Check your air-fryer basket before the burger night: the recipe requires a single layer. Cook in the batches your appliance can hold and check the beef’s internal temperature.

A little look ahead 2

The recipes start at four servings. Six-person ingredient amounts do not rewrite their stated patty counts, loaf dimensions or pan sizes; check portions and equipment against the full method before cooking.

A little look ahead 3

Beef-and-cabbage night requires cooked rice. That amount is counted as cooked rice, with no assumed leftovers from a previous dinner.

A little look ahead 4

Dress the garden salad just before serving and keep prepared coleslaw refrigerated.

The grocery overlap to check first

Ground beef

Used on day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5. Check the amounts for those dinners together before buying more.

Onion

Used on day 1, day 3, day 5. Check the amounts for those dinners together before buying more.

Garlic powder

Used on day 1, day 2. Check the amounts for those dinners together before buying more.

A few details for this menu

Use ingredients across dinners

Ground beef is counted on every evening. Onion appears in the meatloaf, beef-cabbage skillet and tomato pasta, while garlic powder is used in the meatloaf and hamburgers.

Keep the taco skillet’s American cheese separate from cheddar, and keep its salsa separate from crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Similar flavors do not make these identical grocery ingredients.

Make the plan work for you

Replace the complete cheesy taco skillet dinner with Black bean quesadillas for a beef-free evening. Its tortillas, beans and cheddar form a different ingredient list; the other dinners in this plan still contain beef.

A couple of everyday questions

Can I move the dinners around?

Yes. Put the meals on the days that suit your week, and plan purchases or freezing around those dates. Moving the same dinner keeps its ingredient needs; changing the recipe changes the shopping list.

What does this plan cover?

There is one dinner for each of 5 days, planned for 6 people. Any named sides belong to their listed dinners. Add breakfast, lunch and snacks separately; extra leftover portions are not assumed.

If you save a cooked portion

Keep the storage details close.

Buy or safely thaw ground beef for its scheduled day rather than refrigerating a week’s raw beef at once. Cook ground beef to 160°F with a food thermometer.

Refrigerate cooked leftovers promptly in shallow containers and use within 3–4 days. Reheat leftovers to 165°F; the schedule does not extend their storage life.
