Additional recipe notes
No peeling needed: the acorn squash skin is edible. Wash well and remove the seeds before slicing. Use ½-inch-thick half-moons for the main recipe. Allow extra time if multiple batches are needed. Alternate preparation from the tested brief: for plain squash halves, preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Halve the squash lengthwise and remove the seeds. Drizzle 2 tablespoons olive oil over both halves and season with salt and pepper. Air fry cut-side up for 12–15 minutes, or until fork-tender, continuing to cook if needed. This is a separate preparation, not the Parmesan-coated slice method. Refrigerate squash and dip separately within 2 hours and use within 3–4 days. Reheat squash to 165°F; keep the dip cold.
Storage & reheating safety
For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.
