white chocolate¹ (chopped into small pieces)
In the method: Place white chocolate in a small, heat-proof bowl and heat for 30 seconds.
unsalted butter² (softened to room temperature (but not so soft that it’s melty/greasy) )
In the method: Set chocolate aside to cool for at least 15 minutes and no longer warm to the touch (otherwise it will melt the butter and you’ll have a greasy mess).

Additional recipe notes
¹You can use white chocolate bars or white chocolate chips. If using the chips, use a premium brand like Ghirardelli. You will not need to chop the chocolate first if substituting chips. 6 oz of chocolate chips is approximately 1 cup. ²I recommend unsalted butter (this allows us to best control the flavor of our icing), but if you only have salted on hand you can use that, just leave out the salt that is called for.
Storage & reheating safety
For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.
