Additional recipe notes
Make the Caramel Syrup and let it cool before you make the cake and icing. I’ve made mine a day ahead and stored it in a mason jar until I was ready to bake my cake. Cook the caramel syrup until it is the color of tea – a rich golden brown. Do not shortcut the whipping time in the cake-making instructions. The butter must be whipped until light and fluffy, which will give the cake an incredible texture when baked. Prep the baking pan with cooking spray and flour, or line it with parchment paper . The cake will be cooked completely when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool the cake completely on a wire rack! If you don’t, the icing will melt. Store the cake in an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap or foil, at room temperature for 3 days. Nutritional values provided are an estimate and will vary depending on the brands used.
Storage & reheating safety
For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.
These are general safety limits, not a tested storage or freezing recommendation for this particular dish. USDA leftovers guidance · Safe cooking temperatures
