The last little job

Rest before slicing

Check the stated internal-temperature target, then allow the meatloaves their rest before slicing.

A little more help as you go

A single-loaf option

The shaping step allows one loaf with its stated additional cooking time.

Cook onions a little further if desired

The directions allow taking the onion to golden brown for more flavor before adding aromatics.

A few questions you might have

Do I add raw onion to the turkey?

Cook it with the aromatics first and let it cool slightly before combining.

Should I mix the meat very thoroughly?

Mix until combined and avoid overmixing, as the directions and notes caution.

Can I make one larger loaf?

Yes, but one loaf needs more cooking time than two smaller loaves.

When do I add the glaze?

Brush it onto the shaped loaves before they go into the oven.

Can I slice immediately after baking?

Allow the resting stage in the directions before slicing the cooked meatloaf.

Any more cooking tips?

Tips: Don’t over-mix. Mix the meat mixture only until just combined. If you over-mix the meat can become dry and tough. Make equal sized loaves. Be sure that you divide the meat mixture up into two even amounts so they cook at the same rate. Check the temp. To verify that the meatloaf is done, use a meat thermometer. It should be 165ºF. Let it rest. Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before you slice into it so the moisture can redistribute. If you slice into it too soon, that moisture will run out and the loaf will be dry. Storage: Leftover baked turkey meatloaf will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for 3-4 months. To reheat, thaw in the fridge if frozen then microwave until heated through.

Storage & reheating safety

For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.
