Additional recipe notes
Crockpot option: Brown the beef, onion, and bell pepper in a skillet, then add to your crockpot along with all the other ingredients. Cook on LOW for 3-4 hours or HIGH for 2, giving it a stir occasionally so it doesn’t scorch. (Keep in mind that cooking in the slow cooker will result in a softer texture than sloppy joes made in the skillet.) Storing leftovers: Store leftover sloppy joe mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To freeze, m ake sure the cooked meat mixture is completely cooled, then add to freezer-safe containers (the entire batch or individual portions) and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat before serving.
Storage & reheating safety
For cooked, perishable leftovers, refrigerate within 2 hours (1 hour above 90°F), using shallow containers for prompt cooling. Keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below, use refrigerated leftovers within 3–4 days, and reheat hot leftovers to 165°F, checked with a food thermometer. Follow any shorter package limit.
